The Fenrithor Fiasco: Its best not to mention it
Gather ’round, my darling adventurers, for today we unravel the strange tale of the Fernithors. Oh these glorious beasts, What a sight to behold. Well, once you get over the fact that they are half one thing, half another, and a little something in between. Wholly untamable. Fierce, graceful, and dripping with cunning. They are a majestic creature… If you can face up to the fact that, they are somewhat, rather quite terrifying. But you’re here, aren’t you? Not afraid, I presume? Then perhaps, if we’re clever about it, we can uncover a bit more about their tale…or should I say tails…
If you ever find yourself journeying past Moonstone Grove, a deliciously hidden gem nestled outside Mythari’s bustling city center. Take a moment to wander deeper. If you step carefully into the Whispering Thicket. You will find yourself on a pretty cobblestone path. This is no ordinary path. It stretches into a realm where light twirls through the branches of ancient trees, and the very air hums, rather quite thickly and rather harmoniously, I might add, with magic.
You’ll soon discover the curious little wonder of the realms. It is known as Oracle’s Hollow. Ah, much like the path, my friend. It is a place like no other, where shadows play tricks on the eyes and the air feels thick with enchantment. And within its center is a stunningly humble, crooked cottage with its ivy-clad walls. And strange little flowerbeds full of things you and I have never seen and probably wouldn’t want to again.
Now it’s good to point out that out here in the sticks, there’s one rule even the fiercest creatures obey without question: avoid Oracle’s Hollow. For within that charmingly strange little cottage. Lives a force far more unpredictable than any storm or predator in the realm. We know her, of course, as Granny Elara.
There’s a story told by the natives and it goes a little like this. You see, something happened there. Something none of the Fernithors wish to speak of. I mean, they can’t speak at all, of course. But their body language says it all. They would rather face the harshest storm or the fiercest predator than set paw or hoof near the Hollow. And the reason? You guessed it… Granny.
Now, I’m sure you’re wondering. How could a creature so graceful and powerful as a Fenrithor be tiptoeing around a little old lady? Well, dear reader, as anyone who has had the slightest interaction with Granny Elara knows, she is far from just “a little old lady.”
It all started one fate infused afternoon, when Granny returned from a rather disastrous adventure past the Veil. Now, it’s important to note that crossing the Veil is strictly against the lore of the Mytharians. A mere guideline, Granny would probably argue. But nonetheless, upon her return, she was not quite herself. Oh no, she was bright yellow and absolutely furious. Not your usual shade of “mildly irritated,” mind you, she did resemble a daffodil in full bloom. Her mood was more like a thunderstorm gearing up for a spectacular showdown.
The Fenrithors, being the curious and bold creatures they are, happened to wander too close to Oracle’s Hollow that day. Whether it was the shimmer of the Veil still clinging to her, or her temper so fierce that it cracked the air like a whip, the Fernithors learned one thing that day: never mess with a Granny.
No one really knows Exactly....
What happened between Granny and the Fenrithors is anyone’s guess. What we do know is some say she turned one of them into a tea kettle for daring to move past her. Others claim the leader of the herd tried to bring the pack through the hollow, only to find themselves enchanted and forced to recite terrible poetry for the rest of their life.
Whatever the truth may be, none can say for certain. Granny’s not exactly forthcoming about the incident, and the Fernithors, well, they’re to busy hiding out to ask them. But one thing is crystal clear: ever since that faithful day, those silver-furred beasts won’t go near Oracle’s Hollow.

So, dear reader, should you ever find yourself wandering near Moonstone Grove and spot a pack of graceful, silver-furred creatures. The ones that show up with a horse’s body and a wolf’s head. or, you know, whichever configuration they’re feeling that day. Well, how can you tell it’s them, I hear you ask? Rest assured, their three magnificent tails will always remain flying like a moonlit flag.. If you happen to see them galloping swiftly in the opposite direction of a small, crooked cottage, don’t be too alarmed….
In fact, it might be your wisest decision to make haste and follow their lead. Not too closely, mind you, unless, of course, you’ve somehow managed to befriend one. Then, perhaps, you’ll have a chance to witness firsthand why even the bravest of Fernithors steer clear of Granny Elara’s domain.
And if they take a liking to you, well, you might just find yourself whisked away to safety, though let’s hope they don’t change their minds mid-gallop!
Until next time, may your adventures be wild and your mysteries ever so slightly less terrifying.
