Celestial Springs: Discovering Mytharia’s Wandering Waters

Now, we can’t talk about Moonstone Grove without mentioning the elusive Celestial Springs. Imagine crystal-clear waters that seem to shimmer with an inner light, as if they’ve been flowing through the very fabric of time and space since the dawn of creation. They have always quietly waited to be discovered by those with the curiosity (or luck) to find them.

But, as with all things in Mytharia, their history is far from straightforward.

Celestial Springs

As we know, Mythaira is home to many myths and legends.

There is none that excites the Citadels more than the legends surrounding the Celestial Springs.

The towns and cities are always alive with the new details on the where abouts of the springs. Some think they were born from a single drop of the River Lethe, take straight from Hades’ realm in a rather daring act of defiance. The culprit? A certain wayward old lady with a twinkle in her eye and a heart full of rebellion. The gossip is she walked right up to the gates of the Underworld, gave the ferryman a wink, and walked out with a tiny drop of its silvery waters, hidden in one of her pockets. Whether that’s true or just another tall tale is up for debate.

The Celestial Springs have a mind of their own and have a terrible little habit of not staying put. One day, you might find them nestled in a serene clearing, their waters glistening under soft starlight. The next, they’ve vanished entirely, perhaps hiding in some secluded corner of the Grove, far from prying eyes. Plotting maps of Moonstone Grove has turned into a nightmare, leaving many explorers scratching their heads, their maps crumpled in frustration, muttering about springs that don’t understand the concept of “staying in one place.”

Despite their enchanting allure, the Springs are quite frustrating, appearing only to the most persistent, or the most fortunate, wanderers. Some believe the water chooses its visitors, drawn to those who carry a particular energy or intention. Some whisper that the Springs tie themselves to the very heartbeat of the land, moving with the seasons and aligning with the stars and moons in ways mere mortals cannot hope to predict. It is known that if you can find Sylphira, and manage to make them an offering they like, they might just point you in a similar direction to where the springs are. This rumour, of course, might have been made the Sylphira themselves. The truth, much like the springs, is slippery at best.

Drinking from these waters is supposed to provide more than a delicious thirst quenching remedy.

It is quite possible that these waters keep themselves so well hidden to conceal the hidden secrets of their depths.

Drinking from the waters can give you a glimpse into what’s yet to come. Legends speak of its ability to return youth to the old, memories to the forgotten, and even heal wounds thought beyond the reach of any magic. Some whisper that the water holds the power to mend broken souls, restoring what was lost or damaged beyond repair. It’s not something you can just leave lying around for anyone to get their hands on.

It is worth noting, however, that any gifts bestowed upon the drinker is up to the waters entirely, and it is not always what one expects or wants in the first place. More than a few have walked away from its waters with answers to questions they never wished to ask.

Even the myths about the rivers feeding into the Celestial Springs brim with mystery.

Some say these waters flow from realms beyond this one, fed by ancient, otherworldly sources.

Some say the rivers enchant those who drink from them, revealing memories of ages long past.  Drink from them, and you may glimpse not only the future but also the forgotten histories of the realms. Each drop carries a story, a fragment of a lost age, waiting for those bold enough to sip and unlock its secrets.

Back in the grand citadel of Mythari, where the grand citadel perches like a cat on a windowsill, these legends float through the alleyways as freely as the scent of fresh-baked pastries. Weaving their way through the cobbled streets and gathering embellishments with every ear they pass.

Some say a powerful ruler once found the Springs and became immortal, his reign continuing in secret. Some claim the waters conceal a darker secret, demanding a price for every gift they bestow. Yet, despite all the rumours and speculation, one thing remains true: no one can ever truly predict where the Springs will appear next.

So, should you find yourself wandering the winding paths of Moonstone Grove, keep your ears tuned to the whispers of the leaves and your eyes open for the faintest glimmer of light. Because in the Grove, magic isn’t just an idea. It’s an experience. And the Celestial Springs? They are the very heartbeat of that magic, ever-flowing, ever-changing, and always just out of reach.

Until next time, may your adventures be wild and your mysteries ever so slightly less terrifying.
